Function G protein-coupled receptor for melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) that signals primarily through G(i/o) to inhibit adenylyl cyclase, and can additionally couple to G(q/11) to stimulate phospholipase C and mobilize intracellular calcium (PubMed:10421367, PubMed:15340116, PubMed:38710677, PubMed:39616153). Predominantly localized within the central nervous system where it regulates various physiological processes including feeding behavior, energy homeostasis, stress/anxiety-related behaviors and sleep (PubMed:10421367, PubMed:15166293, PubMed:15941924).
