Background Descriptions	LRRC26 is a 334 amino acid protein that localizes to the cytoplasm and contains six LRR repeats. Expressed at high levels in normal colon, pancreas, prostate, salivary gland and intestine, LRRC26 is also present in several cancer cell lines, including colon cancer and pancreatic cancer, suggesting an important role in carcinogenesis.

Required for the conversion of BK alpha channels from a high-voltage to a low-voltage activated channel type in non-excitable cells. These are characterized by negative membrane voltages and constant low levels of calcium.
